Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security (SNSC) Ali Larijani returned to Tehran after he wrapped up his 2-leg West Asian tour.

Why it matters:

Larijani made the visits to Iraq and Lebanon as the first ones as the Secretary of SNSC to reiterate Iran's stance toward the regional countries: Iranian support for the regional countries' unity and respect for their territorial integrity.

The big picture:

During the trip, which marked Larijani’s first foreign mission after being appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, he first arrived in Baghdad and then Beirut, holding discussions with Iraqi and Lebanese senior officials.

Key points of the trip:

In Iraq, main focus was on security and border cooperation, combating terrorism, facilitating the presence of Arbaeen pilgrims, and advancing a security agreement between the two countries.

In Lebanon talks centered on regional developments, preserving Lebanon’s stability and independence, and strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
