Andreas Kraavik, Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister, announced that Oslo will execute the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he travels to Norway.

Why it matters:

It shows a rare instance where a European country publicly commits to enforcing an ICC arrest warrant against a sitting head of government, highlighting increasing international pressure on Israeli officials due to war crimes in Gaza.

The big picture:

The ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant in November 2024, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including using starvation as a weapon against Gaza’s population. Despite Israeli regime's appeals, the court upheld the warrants in spring 2025. Norway, along with other countries, has also imposed sanctions on far-right Israeli ministers involved in the Gaza genocide.

What he's saying:

Kraavik condemned Israel’s “completely unacceptable” crimes in Gaza, including attacks on schools, hospitals, journalists, and imposing hunger on civilians. He emphasized Norway’s readiness to uphold international law by arresting Netanyahu if he enters Norwegian territory.
