The lovers of Imam Hussain (AS) from around the world finally gathered on Thursday in Karbala around the holy shrine of Imam Hussain (AS), after walking for several days, to observe Arbaeen rituals.

Why it matters:

Arbaeen march is the greatest religious gathering in the world, where millions of people, from different faiths, races, and nationalities, take part in a move to show a preview of a world full of peace and justice. The pivot in the movement is Imam Hussain (AS).  

 

Context:

Today, August 14 (Safar 20 AH), is 40 days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala for justice and dignity; a date that is important for the Shia Muslims.

 

The big picture:

The roads leading to the holy town of Karbala witness annually the influx of millions of pilgrims, who walk on foot towards the shrine of the Master of Martyrs, Imam Hussain (AS), to renew their pledge to adhere to his path.
