Veteran Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt says the Israeli regime has been deliberately targeting journalists in Gaza to hide genocide in Palestine, following the killing of 5 Al Jazeera reporters in an Israeli regime attack.

Why it matters:
The killing of journalists in conflict zones undermines press freedom and global awareness of humanitarian crises. Pratt says Israel’s deliberate killings are part of a long-term strategy to control narratives on Palestine.

The big picture:
Five Al Jazeera journalists (including Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif) were killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza on August 10, sparking international outcry. Pratt says this fits a broader pattern of media suppression by Israel.  Critics argue Israel’s allies, particularly the U.S., shield it from accountability at the UN Security Council.

What Kwesi Pratt is saying:
"This is a systematic attempt by Israel to prevent the world from knowing about the genocide in Palestine, not just in Gaza, but across all occupied territories. Targeting journalists isn’t new; it’s been happening long before October 7."

"They want to conceal the realities: forced evictions at gunpoint, destroyed farmlands, and the engineered hunger in Palestinian communities."

"The UN and other bodies fail to act because of U.S. veto power in the Security Council. Israel’s allies are enablers of these violations."

"Journalists in Africa, Asia, and worldwide must unite and expose this Israeli apartheid occupation. Sustained awareness can end Palestinian suffering."
