Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned the joint statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and Britain as anti-Iran allegations and baseless.

Iran PressIran news: Saeed Khatibzadeh said: "The PGCC-UK joint statement serves the intentions of the infamous promoters of discord who intend to block regional interactions and cooperation."

Khatibzadeh argued that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always played a responsible role in the promotion of regional peace and stability and its call for regional interactions and cooperation is on the same line.

"Unfortunately, some western countries, including Britain, by exporting a flood of modern armaments to some regional countries have become the source of regional tensions and the outbreak of human catastrophes," the spokesman added.

Khatibzadeh stressed, "The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in line with its strategic viewpoints and fundamental policies, considers regional interactions and cooperation in a bid to resolve the regional problems, and accordingly, welcomes constructive initiatives in that line."

"Iran has always remained committed to its commitments in the non-proliferation treaty (NPT) and its additional protocol, and it is entitled to benefit from the peaceful privileges of nuclear energy," he concluded.
