Rome (IP) - Streets of Rome, the capital of Italy, witnessed rallies condemning domestic violence against women.

Iran PressEurope: Thousands of Italian women held demonstrations in Rome, demanding the end of physical violence and harassment of women.

Protesters called for tougher laws to combat domestic violence against women, chanting slogans that said men's violence against women must not be ignored.

Nearly 7 million women in Italy are victimized by domestic violence every year, with more than 120 women being murdered. Over 80 percent of the violence cases are committed in the family environment either by a spouse or ex-partner.

According to Italy's Police, 109 women have been murmured since the beginning of 2021.

Domestic violence is rife in Western societies.

According to the National Domestic Violence hotline, an average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States.

That is more than 12 million women and men over a single year.
