Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister called the Persian Gulf an "eternal name and a global heritage" and stressed that the security of the Persian Gulf is ensured by the participation of all the littoral countries.

Iran Press/Iran news: Issuing a message on Monday on the occasion of Persian Gulf National Day, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that in the Islamic Republic's view security is a complex multi-dimensional, and vital category that will only be achieved through cooperation and strengthening political, economic, and social ties between the regional countries.

"In this regard, we believe that the security of the Persian Gulf can be ensured only with the participation of all the of the littoral countries and that in this way, no exceptions and neglect are accepted from any of the countries, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a pioneer in proposing and initiatives in these areas."

Amir-Abdollahian called the Persian Gulf a region for its eternal neighbors, and Iran showed in practice that it sought to turn the Persian Gulf into a hub of neighborhood policy, peace, and stability through interaction and dialogue between the two shores of the Gulf.

He referred to the US interventionist policy in the region and said that while the US and the West have launched arms sales in the region, the Islamic Republic seeks to connect the Persian Gulf with Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Black Sea so that all of the regional nations' benefit is ensured. 

The Iranian FM also pointed in his message to Palestine's developments, noting that certainly, defending Palestine and reducing the Israeli regime's warmongering will have positive effects on the Persian Gulf.

Today, April 29, is the National Day of the Persian Gulf in the Iranian calendar. April 29 was the ending day of Portugal's 117-year occupation of the Persian Gulf.  

The Portuguese colonizers invaded the region in 1508 because of the Persian Gulf's importance and occupied it until 1622. 204
