Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned shooting at Lebanese protesters on Friday, calling on Lebanese government to identify the perpetrators behind the crime.

Iran PressIran news: Iran believes that the people, government and army, as well as the Lebanese resistance, will successfully pass the crisis which has its roots in the Israeli regime, Saeed Khatibzadeh stated.

Condemning the anonymous gunmen's opening fire on the Lebanese people demonstrating peacefully in Beirut, Saeed Khatibzadeh called on the country's authorities to prosecute the perpetrators of the crime, soon.

It is imperative that the Lebanese government identify and arrest those behind these crimes and mischief, the spokesman noted.

The peaceful protest in Beirut on Thursday was related to the last year’s Beirut Port blast probe.

Lebanese took to the streets to protest an order by a judge investigating the case of the Beirut Port blast in August 2020 to detain several Lebanese ministers and representatives.

They were protesting outside the Justice Palace when a number of anonymous gunmen attacked them, killing 6 and injuring over 60 others.

Khatibzadeh said that the Islamic Republic of Iran underscores the importance of peace and stability in Lebanon and was closely monitoring the developments.

Khatibzadeh offered his condolences to the Lebanese government and people, especially the bereaved families, and prayed for the health of the injured.
