Iran congratulates Iraq on successful parliamentary elections

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman congratulated the Iraqi government and people on the successful parliamentary elections and hoped that new elected Parliament members would form the new Iraqi government.

Iran PressIran news: Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed hope that with the consent and sympathy of all elected representatives of the Iraqi people, we would see the formation of a new government.

Khatibzadeh further added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran, as in the past, is ready for joint cooperation that help to the growth and development of the two countries ties."

The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq said on Monday that 41 percent of the eligible Iraqi voters have participated in the parliamentary elections.

Parliamentary elections were held in Iraq on 10 October 2021. These elections recognize 329 members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives who will, in turn, elect the Iraqi President and confirm the Prime Minister.

Twenty-five million voters were eligible to participate in Iraq's fifth parliamentary election since the 2003 US-led invasion.
