Second committee of UN General Assembly

UN (IP) -The first counselor of Iran's permanent mission to the UN said that today's world is suffering from unilateralism illness that is much more dangerous than the coronavirus pandemic.

Iran PressAmerica: Delivering a speech in the general meeting of the second committee of the UN General Assembly, Ali Hajilari said that the UN turned a blind eye to the poverty and food insecurity in the world, which is rooted in politicizations including the spread of unilateralism.

The issue of unilateral coercive illegal actions and illegal sanctions against developing countries and the contribution of such actions to enhance poverty and starvation were not mentioned at all in the UN reports, Hajilari noted.

The Iranian diplomat stressed that as long as unilateralism was practiced against the world nations, no promising horizon would be envisioned for the end of inequality, poverty, and starvation.

More than 400,000 children are at risk of starvation in Yemen, with nearly 2.2 million in need of urgent care, according to United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

New figures indicate that hunger among children in the country has reached an “all-time high”, with at least 462,000 suffering from severe acute malnutrition – a drastic increase of about 200 percent since 2014.
