Baghdad (IP) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived in Baghdad on Saturday.

Iran PressMiddle East: Hussein Amir-Abdollahian was welcomed at Baghdad Airport by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein, Iraqi officials, and the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi.

Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has made his first foreign trip since being elected as Iran FM to attend Baghdad Summit.

Prior to his visit to Baghdad, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated: "We welcome any regional initiative by the Iraqi authorities with the participation of the people of the region."

Amir-Abdollahian added: "We believe that it was necessary to invite Syria as an important neighbor of Iraq in this summit. Of course, we are in contact and consultation with the Syrian leadership regarding security and sustainable development in the region, and we will consult directly with Damascus about the Baghdad summit and the emphasis on the important role of the countries in the region in any regional initiative".
