Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Tehran (IP) - Before he visited Baghdad, the Iranian foreign minister said that Iran welcomed any regional initiative of the Iraqi authorities with the participation of the people of the region.

Iran PressIran news: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian added: "We believe that it was necessary to invite Syria as an important neighbor of Iraq in this summit."

He added: "Of course, we are in contact and consultation with the Syrian leadership regarding security and sustainable development in the region, and we will have direct consultation with Damascus regarding the Baghdad summit and emphasizing the important role of regional countries in any regional initiative."

The Baghdad summit will be held today with the participation of the leaders and officials of the countries in the region.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein recently invited Iran to attend the meeting during a visit to Tehran.
