The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI ) , Behrouz Kamalvandi, has confirmed that the European Union has submitted a package to Iran which takes into account some aspects of Iranian demands , but, he said, more time is needed to carefully analyse this package.

According to an Iran Press report, speaking on Tuesday at a press briefing, Behrouz Kamalvandi gave an overview of Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and talked about the latest steps taken by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI ),  after the US withdrawal from the JCPOA.

Kamalvandi said:  "Iran is yet to decide whether to quit or remain within the JCPOA , and negotiations have taken place between Iran and the 4+1 Group on this very subject.  The package (of incentives) that we have received from the European Union is currently being analysed by several groups of experts.  Europe's package of proposals has taken into account some aspects of Iranian demands, but we need more time to fully analyse these proposals.

Kamalvandi added:  "Negotiations between Iran and the European Union on this subject are on-going.  Officials at the highest levels of the Islamic Republic are supervising and overseeing these negotiations."

Elsewhere in his remarks Kamalvandi said: "Some steps have been taken, as instructed by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution,  for example, a hall full of centrifuges is ready to start work, more electricity has been supplied to our nuclear energy sites, and various other steps -- which are allowed under the JCPOA -- have been taken. Commenting on media reports that some IAEA inspectors have visited an Iranian university , Kamalvandi neither confirmed nor rejected the media reports, but said: "We never provide any information on what parts of our nuclear sites the IAEA staff and inspectors are allowed to visit,  and we have asked the IAEA not to divulge any information in this regard.  This is the general policy that we follow."

Recently, the European Union's foreign policy chief said that EU resolved to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) after US withdraw from the deal.

The European Union's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini was speaking to reporters upon her arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels ahead of a meeting of the EU foreign ministers. This is the first meeting on ministerial level following the US pullout from the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
