Iran Press/ Iran news: Alireza Raisi, in an interview with IRIB on Saturday night, emphasized that nationwide vaccination will be done by domestically produced vaccines.
"Fortunately, Iranian scientists have perfectly produced COVID vaccines and are conducting clinical trials in various phases," said the official.
Raisi said that in order to vaccinate more than 70% of Iran’s population, about 120 million doses of vaccine are needed, of which, in the most optimistic case, 60% would be provided from domestic vaccines and 40% from foreign vaccines.
He also noted that the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education has purchased 16 million and 800 thousand doses of vaccine from the COVAX, but a small amount of it has arrived in Iran so far.
Raisi said that the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education has signed other contracts with different countries to purchase the COVID vaccine, adding that about 5 million and 500 thousand doses of COVID vaccine have been imported.
