Attending his weekly press conference Esmaeil Baqaei, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, regarding the claims of some media about the joint Islamabad-Doha proposed plan for a ceasefire and return to negotiations, said: "Washington is trapped in a crisis that it created itself alongside the Zionist regime, and it must pay the price for it."
The foreign ministry spokesperson also commented on the contradictory U.S. approach regarding Iran's peaceful nuclear program and its permission for the development of Saudi Arabia's civilian nuclear program, stating: "The peaceful use of nuclear energy, under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), is the right of all countries. The reason or pretext for the actions by the U.S. and its allies against Iran has precisely been Iran's insistence on exercising its right under the NPT."
"We leave these contradictions to the judgment of global public opinion to see that U.S. behavior is fundamentally based on law-breaking and selective approaches. However, these actions will have no impact on our principled stance; a stance which holds that every NPT member state must be able to enjoy their rights, including the peaceful use of nuclear energy," he noted.
Reacting to the new British Prime Minister's approval of the U.S. using British territory to carry out attacks against Iran, Baqaei said: "We are aware that during the 40-day military aggression by the U.S. and the Zionist regime against Iran, the U.S. used British military bases to support its aggressive operations against Iran."
"This is against the international law standards by any criteria, violates Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, and is absolutely unacceptable. The explicit acknowledgment of this matter by the new British Prime Minister is in fact a confession to complicity in committing an international violation, and the UK government must be held accountable for this action," he added.
In response to a question regarding Ukraine's attack on an Iranian vessel and the potential role of Europe, he stated: "all parties that consider themselves supporters of the Ukrainian regime must be held accountable in this regard. The behavior of the country's president resembles that of the anarchists who, on the eve of World War I, took actions whose consequences engulfed all of Europe. You cannot take such actions to elevate your modest standing and expect to remain immune from the consequences."
"Over the past 4 years, instead of focusing on resolving the war imposed on Eastern Europe, Ukraine has constantly blamed others. We have always stated that we have no interference in this country's war. Ukraine's recent adventurism will not go unanswered and could engulf different parts of the world, just as the Caspian Sea littoral states are very concerned about this matter," he concluded.
