Tehran (IP) - Iran's parliament speaker stressed the vital role of parliamentary ties in cementing friendly relations between Tehran and Caracas.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf extended his congratulation to the newly-elected President of the National Assembly of Venezuela over his parliamentary success.

In a message to the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela Diosdado Cabello, Ghalibaf stressed the strategic policy of Iran and Venezuela in maintaining independence and fighting against the US’ domineering measures and cruel sanctions.

Emphasizing the vital role of parliamentary ties in cementing friendly ties, Ghalibaf expressed hope that using parliamentary diplomacy in the new round of parliamentary activities, bilateral cooperation in different fields would be expanded more than ever.

Allies of President Nicolas Maduro won a majority in the parliamentary election in Venezuela.

An alliance of parties called the Great Patriotic Pole that backs Maduro won 68.9% of the votes cast, according to figures published on Monday.
