Beijing (IP) - Referring to the assassination of Iranian top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the Iranian ambassador to China stressed the Islamic Republic's legitimate right to defend itself against organized terrorist acts.

Iran Press/ Asia: The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to China Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh told the Global Times on Thursday that Iran would identify and punish the perpetrators of the assassination of Fakhrizadeh, and called on the international community to take the necessary measures to hold the perpetrators of this crime accountable.

The Iranian ambassador to China reminded that Fakhrizadeh's martyrdom will not stop the peaceful activities of Tehran in terms of nuclear power, saying: "If anyone thinks that by assassinating Iranian scientists, he can stop the progress of Iran's peaceful nuclear program, he is very wrong."

Referring to the coronavirus pandemic in the world, Keshavarzzadeh stated: "A part of Fakhrizadeh's activities was to fight against the coronavirus outbreak by making diagnostic kits and making the COVID-19 vaccine despite the severe US drug sanctions against Iran."

The Iranian ambassador to China also added that the purpose of the assassination of this Iranian scientist was to undermine world peace and security and instability in the West Asian region, adding that some people in the last days of Donald Trump's administration are trying to destabilize the region.

In another part of the conversation, Keshavarzzadeh stressed that Washington is no longer a member of the UN Security Council and that Iran will not negotiate with the United States: "Iran is always committed to its international obligations, provided that the other parties act responsibly."

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organization of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and a leading scientist in the nuclear industry, was martyred last Friday (November 27th) in a terrorist attack around Tehran.
