Isfahan (IP) - The Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis arrived in Iran this Saturday morning as planned and initially had a one-day visit to Isfahan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Cassis visited the historical monuments of Isfahan, including Imam Square (Naghsh-e Jahan) and the tourist attractions and handicrafts of this city.

The Swiss Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation met with professors from Isfahan University of Technology at the Abbasi Hotel to discuss and exchange views on expanding scientific, cultural, and technological interactions.

He will also visit the Vank Church in Isfahan today and meet with Bishop Sepian Kashchian, the Armenian religious leader of Isfahan and southern Iran.

Cassis will travel to Tehran after Isfahan, and his official meetings will begin in Tehran on Sunday, the most important of which will be the 100th anniversary of the beginning of relations between the two countries.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will also host Ignazio Cassis, and his accompanying delegation in Tehran on Monday, September 7th.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran stated that the main topics of the talks and meetings of the Swiss Foreign Minister will be consultation and exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, regional and international affairs, as well as issues related to the Swiss financial channel.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed: "Iran's relations with Switzerland have always been forward and progressive, and during the nuclear talks, which were held several times in Geneva, the Swiss government in good faith hosted our officials."

"Relations between the two countries have always been established, even in difficult circumstances. In addition to being the protecting power of US interests in Iran, the Swiss government is also the protecting power of Iran's interests in Canada and the protecting power of Iran and Saudi Arabia's mutual interests in the two countries."

He also added: "These relations will be followed at multiple levels within the framework of the roadmap that was laid during the Swiss President's visit to Tehran in 2016, and also subsequently approved during Rouhani's visit to Switzerland in 2018."
