Iran, ready to pay compensation for Ukrainian plane crash: Zarif

Tehran (IP) - Iran's foreign minister says Tehran is ready to pay compensation to the families and relatives of the victims of the Ukrainian plane crash as a step to reduce their grief and sorrow.

Iran Press/Iran News: In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, the foreign ministers of Iran and Ukraine discussed the results of a recent visit of the Iranian negotiating team to Kiev to follow the process of investigation of the crash of the Ukrainian Flight PS752.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba assessed the recent meeting of the negotiating team as a positive step and expressed hope that with the continuation of these negotiations and the exchange of information between the authorities of the two countries, this case will be resolved for the people of the two countries, especially the families and relatives of victims.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also stressed the readiness of the Ukrainian side for the visit of the Ukrainian negotiating team to Tehran in October this year to continue talks.

The Boeing 737-800 plane belonging to Ukraine International Airlines crashed near Tehran minutes after the plane had taken-off from Imam Khomeini International Airport in the early hours of January 8.

All the 167 passengers and 9 crew members on board were killed in the tragic incident.

The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said in a statement that the Ukrainian Boeing 737 plane was shot down due to human error at a time of heightened tensions and a threat of war with the US.
