US sanctions are obstructing medicine and aid to Iran: Sanders

The US Senator Bernie Sanders in his tweet said that US sanctions are obstructing medicine and aid from getting in, while coronavirus has caused suffering and death to Iranians.

Iran Press/America: The US Senator Bernie Sanders in his tweet on 31 March said that US sanctions are obstructing medicine and aid from getting in, while coronavirus has caused suffering and death to Iranians.

He then addressed the US secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin saying: "Pandemics know no borders. Let us put aside our countries' disputes and lift sanctions to reduce human suffering."

As the coronavirus outbreak continues in Iran, US lawmakers Tuesday 31 March called on Donald Trump to immediately relax inhuman US sanctions which are making it harder for people Iran to obtain vital medicines, medical equipment, and protective gear for healthcare.

In a joint letter spearheaded by the US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 32 lawmakers demand economic relief to Iran.

Prominent progressive lawmakers joining Ocasio-Cortez in signing the letter were Reps. Ilhan Omar, Jared Huffman, Joaquin Castro, and Senators: Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey.

"It is cruel to enforce sanctions that devastate economies and hurt healthcare systems, especially during a global pandemic," Just Foreign Policy executive director Erik Sperling also said in a statement.
