Iranian ambassador criticizes IAEA on politicizing technical issues

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to International Organizations in Vienna rejected misleading comments on the Bushehr Nuclear power plant stating a problem arises when technical issues become political.

Iran Press/Europe: Iran's Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, as well as Iran's Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Kazem Gharib Abadi while noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a state receiving the International Atomic Energy Agency's technical assistance, recognizes the importance of these supports provided by the Agency to the Member States in strengthening their national nuclear safety infrastructure, emphasized: "Such kind of assistance necessary for the safe operation of nuclear facilities must not be subject to any restrictions, including providing access to information and resources by the country receiving the aid."

Gharib Abadi referring to various IAEA monitoring missions over Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant said: "This powerplant has performed well in evaluations and monitoring the Agency's various missions in 2020, 2011, 2017 and 2018 had conducted."

Kazem Gharib Abadi also regarding Saudi claims on Bushehr nuclear power plant's safety issues said: "The Saudis' claims are far from reality and they seek to turn technical matters into political issues."

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to International Organizations in Vienna stated as Saudi Arabia has prepared a list of partners contributing to its potential nuclear power plant program, it should be asked to provide a clear and comprehensive plan for safety and security.
