5.4-magnitude earthquake rattles southern Iran

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Hormozgan province in southern Iran. There is no immediate report of casualties and damages.205/216

Iran Press/Iran News: A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck southern Iran on Monday near Bandar Abbas but there were no reports of casualties or damage.

The quake jolted for about eight seconds the village of Qale Qazi, which is some 40 kilometers northeast of the major port city, Bandar Abbas. The temblor's depth was some 20 kilometers. Rescue teams were deployed to investigate possible damages.

Director-General of Crisis Management in Hormozgan Province Alireza Safaeisini said, "so far we have not received any reports of the earthquake damage in the city of Ghale Ghazi in Bandar Abbas." 

The village has some 5,000 people, mainly farmers.

Iran is on major seismic faults and experiences one earthquake a day on average.

Earlier in November, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck northwestern Iran, killing at least five people and injuring over 300 others.
