Iran's president said that he will hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and also Singapore leader in the union's summit in Armenia.

Iran Press/ Iran News: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday evening prior to departure to Armenia: "I am going to participate in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) which is to be held in the capital city of Armenia, Yerevan,  and I will have bilateral talks with the leaders."

The president also stated  that he will meet Armenian prime minister and senior officials of the country as well as meeting with the Singaporean leader.

Iranian president said: “A country’s economy grows when it can enter the global competition.”

“We need to have the economic power that helps us compete, and joining this union is a practice for economic power in the region,” Rouhani said.

The Eurasian Economic Union includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Numbers of other countries including Iran, Singapore, Moldavia, and Vietnam are in the process of joining the union.

On Sept.7, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan confirmed Rouhani’s participation at the EAEU and said in an interview that “we have a wide-scale agenda with Iran, and we are looking for frameworks and effective ways for cooperation in the fields of regional security, development of infrastructures, and energy diversity to reach a positive result that would benefit all of our countries.

Recalling his latest trip to New York to attend in UNGA, the Iranian president said: "Travel to New York was mainly political in which, we introduced an initiative for the security of the Hormuz strait; we talked about global issues in the trip as well."

"A 4+1 ministerial meeting and negotiations took place and there was some preparation for 5+1 meeting that everyone agreed on its frameworks and I believe, some important steps have been taken which these steps could continue in other forms," Rouhani told the reporters.

He reiterated that It is very important to put the nuclear issue in its legal and international procedure and order and encourage others to repentance. The condition for these measures were prepared and can be improved in better situations."

Rouhani promised to give more details on his next cabinet meeting next Monday.

Union members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

Iranian President will address the summit on Tuesday.

Iran, Vietnam, and Singapore are the countries who were invited to Yerevan. The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an economic union of states located in central and northern Asia and Eastern Europe. The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union was signed on 29 May 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia, and came into force on  January 1st, 2015.

Treaties aiming for Armenia's and Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union were signed on 9 October and 23 December 2014, respectively. Armenia's accession treaty came into force on January 2, 2015. Kyrgyzstan's accession treaty came into effect on 6 August 2015. It participated in the EAEU from the day of its establishment as an acceding state.

The Eurasian Economic Union has an integrated single market of 183 million people and a gross domestic product of over 4 trillion US dollars.
