Iran condemns terror attack near Herat, targets three Iranians

The Iranian embassy in Afghanistan condemned a terrorist incidence near Herat which killed or injured three Iranian nationals and six Afghans.

Iran Press/Asia: According to an Iran Press report, the Iranian embassy in Kabul strongly condemned the terrorist attack, and expressed condolences to the families of both Iranian and Afghan victims.

According to the Iranian embassy's website, a vehicle carrying Iranian and Afghan nationals went over a mine in the Shamtigh district, near the town of Ghourian in Herat province in Afghanistan.

The subsequent mine explosion killed and injured a number of Iranian and Afghan nationals. At least two Iranian engineers and five Afghan nationals were injured in the mine explosion. One Iranian engineer and one Afghan soldier were killed in the incident. 

The Iranian and Afghan nationals were working on a joint railway project in Herat province when the explosion happened.

The statement also said Iran has launched an investigation into the matter.

Khaf-Herat Railroad (139 kilometers long) is part of Iran-Afghanistan rail corridor. The project started in the fiscal year of 2007-2008, connects Iran’s eastern city of Khaf to Afghanistan’s western city of Ghoryan. 105/211/201
