UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

The UN Secretary-General has warned against the Israeli Prime Minister's campaign promise to annex a key part of the occupied West Bank, saying it would seriously violate international law.

Iran Press/America: "Such steps, if implemented, would constitute a serious violation of international law," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement Wednesday.

"They would be devastating to the potential of reviving negotiations and regional peace, while severely undermining the viability of the two-state solution," he said, according to The Straits Times.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he would move swiftly to annex nearly a third of the occupied West Bank, extending the Zionist regime's occupation over the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea, if Israeli voters returned him to power in the election next week.

The pre-election promise late Tuesday drew immediate condemnation from several countries and international organizations with many warnings of disastrous consequences for the stagnant Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi strongly condemned the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's evil intention to annex parts of West Bank to the occupied territories of Palestine on Wednesday.

Mousavi also said that certain Arab states claiming the leadership of the Arab world are busy with other issues like their military aggression against Yemen and warming up ties with the Zionist regime of Israel which had provided the Tel Aviv regime with an opportunity to disclose its evil intentions.
