The secretary of Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Admiral Ali Shamkhani

The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council said that the US’ train of ‘maximum pressure’ has been stopped in the ‘failure station’ after it sanctioned the Iranian Foreign Minister.

Iran Press/Iran News: The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Admiral Ali Shamkhani, has explained the reason behind the failure of the US maximum pressure campaign against Iran in a note which was published in the Iranian media on Sunday.

“Sanctioning the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif after he rejected Donald Trump’s request for negotiations revealed that the train of ‘maximum pressure’ has been stopped in the ‘failure station’ and all those who are on board of this train have no other choice than changing their direction to the implementation of their commitments and respecting legal rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Shamkhani.

He added that the US President Donald Trump has tried to prove to the world that he is a different individual who can gain most interests with the least possible costs by withdrawing from Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and adopting maximum pressure policy against Iran.

“Maximum pressure strategy was designed with a concentration on weakening foundations of Islamic Revolution power, which are the Leadership, people, The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Foreign Ministry,” the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council stressed.

“Sanctions were used as the cheapest tool to weaken the basis of Iran’s authority. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s active and influential diplomacy is immune to sanctions. Neither Trump nor none of its allies can prevent the clear and rightful message of Iran from spreading in the world,” Admiral Ali Shamkhani concluded.

The US government on Wednesday, July 31, imposed sanctions on the Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The US move simply ratchets up tensions and effectively closes the door to all forms of diplomacy.

Many countries, international organizations and international media have opposed the slapping of sanctions on Zarif, saying this US move is illogical, unhelpful, unlikely to resolve anything, and would only heighten tensions further.
