Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman expressed his condolences over passing away of former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi on Friday expressed his condolences and sympathy over passing away of former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe to the Zimbabwean government, nation, and his family.

Former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe died at the age of 95 on Friday.

Mousavi referred to the important role of Zimbabwean ex-president as a national hero in fighting for freedom and independence against the US’ colonialism, noting: "Mugabe continued to defend his country’s national sovereignty against any foreign intervention even after Zimbabwe’s independence and had a close and friendly relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeded the long-time ruler Mugabe who was ousted in November 2017 following a brief military takeover.
