Iran\'s ambassador to London, Hamid Baeidinejad

It has been confirmed that the Iranian supertanker carrying 2.1 million barrels of Iranian crude oil has now left Gibraltar heading for international waters.

Iran Press/Europe: Iran's ambassador to London, Hamid Baeidinejad, confirmed on Monday morning that the Iranian supertanker, formerly known as Grace 1, but now renamed "Adrian Darya" has now left Gibraltar heading for the High Seas.

The Iranian supertanker is moving away from Gibraltar. The authorities of Gibraltar have rejected a US request to extend the seizure of Iranian tanker Grace 1, citing differences in US and European sanctions against Iran.

In a tweet, on Monday morning Hamid Baeidinejad said: "After being impounded in Gibraltar for 45 days, I can now confirm that the Iranian oil tanker, carrying Iranian crude, has left Gibraltar and is heading towards international waters. The focusing of world attention on the oil tanker, with politicians and world public opinion closely following the issue, is a direct result of the important political, diplomatic, and legal steps taken in the last few days.

Earlier Baeidinejad had tweeted: "The High court in Gibraltar has officially rejected a US request to extend the impounding of the Iranian supertanker. The court ruled that the US request is not valid under European Union legislation and regulations and that the request only complies with America's unilateral sanctions, which the European Union does not accept.
