Sanandaj (IP) - The great gathering of large frame drum players with musicians from Iran, Iraq, India, Afghanistan and other countries taking part, kicked off in the Western Iranian city of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan province.

Iran Press/Iran NewsThe large frame drum is known as Daf in Persian, and is a traditional Iranian musical instrument. The gathering which was planned to be held on the sideline of the 9th International Festival of Daf Players in Sanandaj, was welcomed warmly by the general public and traditional music lovers.

The festival kicked off on Wednesday and is underway until Friday, August 16.

The Daf is a large Persian and Arabic frame drum used in popular and classical Iranian music. Daf is a directly struck Iranian instrument made of a thin skin stretched over a wooden ring, which produces sounds as the player strikes the instrument with fingers. 101/211/218
