An Iranian MP in the ceremony held for commemoration ceremony of 'National Organ Donation Day' said some 50,000 patients have survived by organ transplant in Iran so-far.

Iran Press/Iran news: Closing ceremony of 'Shahre-Nafas' a gathering to commemorate the organ donation was held at Tehran on Tuesday 21st May 2019 with attendance of officials, public figures, celebrities and specially families of donors.

Iran's Parliament Health Committee representative in the ceremony, Ali Nobakht noted to the organ donation of people due to brain death, said about 50,000 patients have survived by organ transplant, Iran Press reported.

"More than 6 million Iranians have received organ donation card till now, and Iran Donation Society is trying to attract more people to register in this organization," Nobakht said.

The commemoration ceremony of “National Organ Donation Day” was held on Monday and Tuesday May 20 and 21 at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Health Services in Tehran with the head of the Masih Daneshvari Hospital Ali Akbar Velayati in attendance.

"Iran has a good ranking in the world in organ donation to the patients who are in serious condition", said the deputy health minister Iraj Harirchi.

Managing director of Iran's Organ Donation Association, Katayuon Najafizadeh, said over a million life each year has been survived by organ transplant through organ donors.

At the end of this significant ceremony, health officials and celebrities encouraged people from all walks of life to join to the organ donation association.

The day commemorates the issuance of a decree by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, on May 21, 1989, authorizing organ donation.

The Iranian health deputy Minister, Ghasem Janbabaei said in the ceremony that Iran has Global ranking in organ donation and especially in liver transplant.

The Iranian Society of Organ Donation is a non-profit organization established in 2016, aiming at raising awareness of organ donation, promoting the culture of donating organs, education and research and offering social working services to the families of organ donors, which have been assigned by the Ministry of Health.
