Young people from the collective of activist movements protested against Westerners and the international community.
This demonstration took place shortly after the speech of Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi at the annual assembly of the United Nations. In his speech, the Congolese head of state called on the international community to condemn and impose sanctions on Rwanda, the main supporter of the terrorist group M23.
These angry young people also expressed their discontent with Westerners. “We organized this demonstration to denounce the silence of the international community. Our head of state himself, yesterday, asked the United States why they do not condemn Rwanda, why they remain silent in the face of the massacres of which the population is the victim. Our mothers are raped for the benefit of the United States that plunder our minerals in Masisi and in the territories of Rutshuru and Beni. This is why we denounce the silence of the international community because it hurts us so much to see that there are more than 10 million dead, but the international community remains silent until now,” Jean Paul Mulagizi, an activist of the Lucha RDC-Afrique movement, told Iran Press.
These angry youths burned an American flag. Muisa Safari, a protester, told Iran Press that this act was a sign of their anger and a warning to the United States of America.
“Today, we just burned the American flag in Goma because we know that if a dog is on a tree, it is because someone made it climb that tree. When we talk about the international community, we see Rwanda directly, also supported by the international community through the United Nations. This is why we just burned this American flag because the US government supported the M23 rebels," Muisa Safari, a protester, told Iran Press.
A similar reaction was expressed by Tumusifu Felicien, another protester who took part in this demonstration against the United States. This activist promises other large-scale actions in the coming days against America.
"If we burned the American flag today, it is to demonstrate our anger and we are planning large-scale demonstrations against the Americans who are plotting against our country. We followed the UN Deputy Secretary-General who was here in Goma and he seemed to protect the M23 rebels who are killing every day. We send a message to the United Nations to withdraw the peacekeepers from our country, because it is this MONUSCO that is plotting against the DRC, but also the Americans who are calling on our government to negotiate with the M23," this protester castigated on Iran Press.
Blaise Muhindo, another protester, told Iran Press that the United States of America should stop supporting terrorists in Africa. “America is at the heart of the insecurity that is plaguing our country. America is a direct financier of Rwandan terrorists, America is a sponsor. It is America that finances and commands the terrorists. When we attack the Americans, it is to say that America should stop all complicity that is happening on Congolese soil. We want peace,” he said.
Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi appealed Wednesday evening to the international community to sanction Rwanda, accused of supporting the M23 rebellion in the east of the country. His speech at the UN has already sparked mixed reactions in Congo, between the hope of seeing the situation unblocked and anger at the violence that continues to hit the region.
The Congolese president accused Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebellion, which is waging war in the east of the country, ravaged by fighting and massive population displacement. 204
