Iran Press/ Iran news: Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in response to reporters' questions regarding the results of the Taiwanese elections, said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran considers respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries to be one of the foundations of its foreign policy. The framework has always declared its support for the principle of one China."
Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran once again declares its firm support for the right of the People's Republic of China to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the reunification of China based on the peaceful development of both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
"Lai Ching-te, a pro-independence candidate from Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party, won the island's presidential election held on Saturday with more than 50 percent of the vote.
In response to this election, the Chinese government announced that the ruling party on this island, after failing to win the majority of votes, does not represent the mainstream of Taiwanese public opinion.
Taiwan has been governed by the local government since 1949, but Beijing has always regarded the island as an integral part of the mainland, a position supported by many countries. 219
