The 36th International Islamic Unity Conference ended its work on Friday evening in Tehran by publishing a statement.
The World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought organizes the International Conference of Islamic Unity with the presence of personalities of the Islamic world every year at the same time as the Week of Unity from the 12th to the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal.
Since 1990, Islamic Development Organization has been in charge of holding four rounds of the conference, but after the establishment of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought by the order of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, this forum became responsible for holding the important conference.
Creating unity and solidarity among Muslims, developing consensus among scholars to approximate their scientific and cultural viewpoints, presenting practical solutions in order to reach Islamic unity, and solving the problems of Muslims and presenting solutions for them out of the elites and educated figures were among the purpose of the International Islamic Unity Conference.
In this meeting, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian explained to the guests a concrete example of the enemy's movements to create division between Shiites and Sunnis during the years of the American occupation of Iraq.
During the years of occupation of Iraq after 2003 by the US, strange and unprecedented events were observed to create division between Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq.
After referring to examples of the enemy's efforts to create division between Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran noted: "In Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon, etc., we have witnessed many cases of the enemy trying to create division among the Muslim Ummah."
In another part of his speech, Amir-Abdollahian stated: "Imam Khomeini (RA) has left many memories for the Islamic Ummah, one of which is the Week of Unity. Another memory of Imam (RA) is the announcement of World Quds Day."
Before Amir-Abdollahian's remarks, several of the guests of the unity conference, including Shaykh Khaled al-Mulla, head of the Sunni Iraqi Scholars Union, Chairman of the board of trustees of the Lebanese Muslim Ulema Association GSheikh Ghazi Youssef Hanina, and Muhammad Azmi Abdul Hamid, president of the Malaysian Islamic Organisation of Consultative Council, spoke about their views on the importance of unity, avoiding division, the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of unity and rapprochement which has raised vigilance against the enemy's conspiracies. 219
