Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed his condolences following the passing away of the late Jamshid Mashayekhi, a pioneer artist and distinguished figure in cinematic, cultural and artistic circles, wishing condolences and patience to his family, friends, and relatives.

Iran Press/Iran news: President Rouhani said the passing away of Jamshid Mashayekhi, a famous actor, a pioneer artist and distinguished cultural figure had caused him great sadness, grief, and sorrow.

President Rouhani said the distinguished and famous cinema, theatre and television actor had played an impressive panoply of valuable roles over the decades and had also participated in creative and ethical social activities.

According to an Iran Press report, President Rouhani also said Mashayekhi's kindness was widely acknowledged by people and he was an excellent role model for the younger generation of artists to follow.

Rouhani also appreciated his lifelong cultural and artistic contributions and services, and offered his condolences to Mashayekhi's family and friends, and the artistic community of Iran in general.

Iconic Iranian actor Jamshid Mashayekhi passed away at the age of 84 in Tehran on Tuesday night.

Born in 1934, Mashayekhi began his career as a theatre actor and then starred in a host of movies and TV series both before and after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

He had been given the best actor award in the Fajr Film Festival several times, and he had won a host of other international cinematic and artistic awards.

Many critics believe that Mashayekhi has gone down in history by playing roles in outstanding movies and TV series such as Princess Ihtijab, Kamalolmolk, Hezardastan and Chrysanthemums.

The popular actor will be laid to rest in Tehran on 6 April. 101/211/202
