Iran maritime tourism to be halted due to Coronavirus

Tehran (IP) - The chief of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad announced the halting of maritime tourism with the aim of preventing the Coronavirus outbreak.

Iran PressIran news: The chief of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad said: "Under  the Coronavirus conditions, the ships carrying basic goods will be entered the ports of Shahid Rajai in Hormozgan province, Imam Khomeini in Khuzestan province and Chabahar in Sistan and Baluchestan province."

On Saturday, in a video conference with Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization executives, he said, "With the aim of preventing the spread of Coronavirus, maritime tourism will be stopped and the voyages are limited to indigenous people in the region."

The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran announced the supply of Coronavirus equipment during operational activities in strategic ports of Iran, emphasizing: "Due to the capabilities and capacities of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, development plans in the ports should be carried out without any delay."

The Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Thursday ordered the Chief of Staff for the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to form a health center to organize medical services for the people across the country.

The global death toll nears 5,000, with more than 132,500 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization, which declared the outbreak a 'pandemic'.

COVID-19 was first detected in China's Wuhan in late December and has since spread across the world. In late January, the World Health Organisation declared a global health emergency in light of the epidemic.
