70,000 prisoners granted furlough due to coronavirus outbreak

Tehran (IP) - The Chief of the Judiciary, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, emphasized that granting of prison leave or furlough to about 70,000 inmates, with priority given to those prisoners with significant medical conditions, will go ahead so long as it does not jeopardize the security of the public and society.

Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi at the Supreme Judicial Council meeting added that the court of convicts of hoarding should be held out of routine procedures and the confiscated items should be quickly distributed in the market.

He emphasized the need to maintain the health of medical staff, adding that the authorities should take immediate action to remove any shortcomings and support hospital staff and medical personnel who are front-line soldiers in the fight against the coronavirus.
