Tehran (IP) – February, 3rd is the anniversary of the successful launch of the "Omid" satellite in 2008 and the National Day of Space Technology here in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran Press/Iran News: Today Monday 3 February is Iran's National Day of Space Technology and the anniversary of the successful launch of the "Omid" satellite in 2008, which placed Iran among just a handful of countries with the capability to both manufacturing and launching their own satellites into space.

Despite sanctions, the Islamic Republic of Iran is at the forefront of top space science research among countries in the region and has been able to build satellites and launch them into space, relying on a highly skilled workforce, scientists and engineers, and indigenous knowledge.

The full cycle of satellite technology is available only to 10 countries worldwide, and the Islamic Republic of Iran was able to achieve the technology despite sanctions.

Investing in space offers the potential for profitability in both the short and long term. Many statistics indicate that not only rich and developed countries but also developing countries, have invested in the field of space science and technology to improve their economy and they have achieved favorable results.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is due to launch the "Zafar" satellite and "Simorgh" satellite carrier in the coming days which will be placed in orbit 500 kilometers above the earth's surface.

Images provided by Zafar remote-sensing satellite can be used to monitor oil reserves, mines, forests, saline, and alkaline soils, diseases, plant pests, and also to investigate natural disasters.
