Iran Press/Iran news: "The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the crash of a Ukrainian airliner near Tehran today," said Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesman for the secretary-general.
He expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Governments of all the countries whose nationals lost their lives in this tragedy.
The plane belonging to Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) crashed near Tehran minutes after take-off from Imam Khomeini Airport after its engine caught fire. All the 167 passengers and nine crew members including 147 Iranians and 32 foreign nationals were killed.

The crew of the plane never made a radio call for help and were trying to turn back to the airport when their burning plane went down, an initial Iranian report said Thursday.
Something went wrong, though “no radio messages were received from the pilot regarding unusual situations,” the report said. In emergencies, pilots typically immediately contact air-traffic controllers.
Some 40 rescue teams have been dispatched to the site of the crash and investigation is underway, deputy head of Iran Red Crescent Society Ebrahim Tajik said, on Wednesday.
