A new Gallup survey found that over half of Americans support the impeachment of Trump.

Iran Press/America: A poll released by Gallup on Wednesday shows that the majority of American people support the impeachment of US President Donald Trump.

Fifty-two percent of Americans support the impeachment of Trump, while 46 percent disagree. That's a 7-point increase from the Gallup survey in June about the impeachment of US President after former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election was revealed.

Support for impeachment among Democrats and Independents is at 89% and 55% respectively; while only 6% of Republicans back the impeachment of Trump.

According to Gallup, Trump's approval rating has remained steady at 39 percent.

The Gallup poll was conducted by telephone interviews on a sample of 1,526 American adults living in the US states.

Gallup's findings of the impeachment of Trump are in line with other recent surveys, which have found that roughly half of Americans support Democrats' attempt to impeach the president.

House Democrats last month launched an impeachment inquiry after it was revealed that Trump had asked the Ukrainian President to investigate US Democratic candidate Joe Biden and his son.

Trump has maintained that he did nothing wrong regarding Biden and Ukraine, saying it was focused on fighting "corruption" and not politics.
