Tehran (IP) - With humanitarian consideration, Iran's Judiciary released a French-Irish national arrested amid the unrest in the country.

Iran PressIran news: Bernard Phelan, 64, was arrested in October 2022, while participating in the unrest in Mashhad of Razavi Khorasan, northeastern Iran. the foreign-backed media and bloggers affiliated with the Western states have been disseminating fake news and fueling the unrest in Iran.  

Unrest was instigated under the pretext of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died due to a sudden heart attack in a police center in Tehran in September 2022, after being taken there for violation of dress codes along with some other women.

Passing through judicial procedures, he was sentenced to six years and six months of imprisonment; During that time, he was in contact with his family by phone, and according to the provisions of the Vienna Convention, benefited from all consular support and services.

The Iranian Embassy in Ireland announced on Thursday that Phelan was released as a result of constructive diplomatic interactions.

In a telephone conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Irish FM Micheál Martin thanked the humanitarian decision of Iran to release an Irish citizen.
