Jeddah (IP) - At the invitation of Prince Faisal bin Farhan Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Foreign and Expatriates Minister of Syria, Faisal Mekdad and the accompanying delegation have arrived in Jeddah on a working visit to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

Iran PressMiddle East: Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji and a number of diplomats received Minister Mekdad and the accompanying delegation upon their arrival at Jeddah Airport.

The visit is the first by a Syrian foreign minister to Saudi Arabia since 2011 when the war in Syria began.

Saudi Arabia will host a meeting of regional foreign ministers on Friday to discuss the return of Syria to the Arab League.

Saudi state media reported last month that discussions were being held between Damascus and Riyadh to resume consular services after media reports emerged of a possible restoration of ties.
