Russia (IP) - Iran opened the system of smart national ID card issuance in Russia during a ceremony at the Iranian Embassy in Moscow on Wednesday.

Iran PressEurope: The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian's visit to Russia, with the presence of Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Moscow.

Heading a delegation to Russia in response to Sergey Lavrov's invitation, Amir-Abollahian arrived in Moscow on Wednesday and met with Russian officials including his counterpart Lavrov. 

During the ceremony, Kazem Jalali said that there are 8,000 Iranians in Russia, over 6,000 of whom were students.

Jalali referred to the extradition of the Iranian prisoners, saying that the Iranian prisoners in Russia were 18 out of whom 9 were extradited and 9 others are to be transferred to Iran.

About the issuance of tourist visas, he said that the visas were supposed to be canceled as of January 2023.

The Iranian ambassador to Moscow added that the issuance of Iranian visas expanded in 2022 such that tourist visas and other visas increased five times compared to 2021.
