Urmia(IP)-Iranian President inaugurates a mega water transfer project of the "Kani Sib" Dam to Lake Urmia in an effort to restore Iran's famous Lake Urmia, considered the endorheic salt lake in Northwestern of the country.

Iran PressIran News: The Iranian president arrived in Urmia city, the Provincial capital of West Azarbaijan on Friday to inaugurate the water transfer tunnel project to Lake Urmia, the endorheic salt lake in Iran.

The mega water transfer project to Lake Urmia was inaugurated on Friday in the presence of Ebrahim Raisi and Ali Salajegheh, head of the Department of Environment.

The transfer of excess water from areas such as the Kani Sib Dam to Lake Urmia is one of the projects for the restoration of Lake Urmia. The project to transfer Kani Sib water to Lake Urmia includes 36 km of tunnels, 11 km of canals, and 28 km of Godar river.

With the round-the-clock efforts of all departments, the project of the tunnel for transferring water from Kani Sib to Urmia Lake was completed in a period of fewer than seven months on the day of Eid al-Maba'th( Dey of Prophet Revelation).

In the first phase of the transfer of Kani Sib water to the lake, it is planned to transfer of 300 million cubic meters of water to Lake Urmia. More than 4,000 billion Tomans have been spent on this project.

The release of water from the Kani Sib dam to the Urmia lake is done in non-agricultural seasons and in compliance with all aspects and the amount of water.
