Iran Press/ Middle East: The meeting in Cairo was hosted by the Arab League and attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas along with many foreign ministers and senior officials.
The gathering came amid one of the deadliest periods of fighting in years in Jerusalem al Quds and the occupied West Bank territory. Forty-five Palestinians have been killed so far this year by the Zionist regime military forces and illegal occupier settlers.
Speakers at the meeting condemned the Zionist regime’s “unilateral measures” in Jerusalem al Quds and the West Bank in statements, including home demolitions and expanding settlements.
They also condemned visits by Tel Aviv's officials to the city’s contested holy site, which has often been the epicenter of the Zionists' and Palestinian worshippers' unrest.
Calling Jerusalem al Quds "the backbone of the Palestinian cause," the Egyptian president warned of dire repercussions of any Tel Aviv's move to change the status quo of the holy site, saying they would “negatively impact” future negotiations to settle the Palestinian conflict.
