Tehran (IP) - Iran's foreign minister says the incident at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran was not a terrorist incident and the attack was only done for personal motives.

Iran PressIran news: On Friday night, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahain visited the wounded in the incident at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran's Shohadaye Tajrish Hospital.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed condolence over the incident. 

 

On Friday, January 27, 2023, a gunman attacked the embassy of Azerbaijan's Republic on Friday; He killed one security guard and wounded two others.

The primary evidence shows that the gunmen's motivation to attack the embassy is personal, yet judicial investigations are underway to extract more about the motivation of the attack and its nature.

In a joint Press Conference with the Azeri ambassador to Tehran on Friday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the investigation of the case kicked off on the order of President Raisi immediately after the incident. 

Amir-Abdollahian recalled that the incident was not a terrorist one and the gunman merely carried out the attack with personal motivations. 

According to the security services of the two countries and the details released so far, the convict attack on the place was confirmed that the incident was not an organized terrorist incident and that the gunman did it because his wife was in Azerbaijan Republic, the Iranian FM reiterated.

He said that such incidents had happened occasionally for the Iranian diplomats in other countries such as in the UK. 

The Azeri envoy Ali Alizaded who left Iran and returned said for his part insisted on the idea that the attack was a terrorist one and called for the Iranian relevant organizations' investigation of the case.

The leader of the medical team also for his part said that the first injured person was in good condition, and the second one is under an operation on his jaw.
