Iran Press/ Iran News: Chabahar port in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeast of Iran, is the only oceanic port in Iran, which is located on the coast of the Makran Sea and the Indian Ocean.
Amir Moghaddam announced on Saturday that the first ocean liner entered Chabahar directly from China and docked at the port.
Formerly, the Chinese vessels were used to be unloaded at Bandar Abbas port in Hormozgan Province, southern Iran, and their cargo was transferred to Chabahar by smaller ships.
Moghaddam said that the vessel unloaded could accommodate 6,500 containers and noted that with the new line opened $400 would be saved per each container in the process of unloading and uploading and the cargo would be delivered 10 days earlier.
Chabahar port is of special importance due to its strategic location; it is the closest path for the Central Asian landlocked countries such as Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan to access to open waters.
A 25-year Comprehensive Cooperation Plan between the Islamic Republic of Iran and China was signed on March 27, 2021, in Tehran by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Wang Yi.
The agreement follows the cooperation at the political-economic, security-defense, and geopolitical-strategic levels.
