Tehran (IP) - A member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament said that Tehran's relationship with the Taliban government depends on their behavior toward the Afghan people.

Iran PressIran news: Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, in a meeting with the Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Hideo Ikebe, added: "All the countries of the region and the international community should work together to prevent the spread of the crisis in Afghanistan."

He added: "Iran's policy is to provide all-out assistance to the Afghan people to prevent humanitarian disasters."

Rahimi Jahanabadi stated: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has supported and hosted the people of Afghanistan for several decades and provided them with livelihood, health, and education facilities, and now hosts more than 5 million Afghan citizens."

Stating that the US surrendered Afghanistan to the Taliban to restrain Russia and China, Rahimi Jahanabadi added: "At the same time, the US is trying to revive ISIS once again to destabilize the region."

Referring to the need for the United Nations to play a greater role in Afghanistan, the parliament member said: "The United Nations can play a greater role in the developments in Afghanistan and efforts to reach a consensus among the countries in the region to encourage the Taliban to Inter-Afghan dialogues are needed."

Ikebe also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for accepting and supporting millions of Afghans and said: "The people of Afghanistan should be supported, and the United Nations is thinking of a solution to help the people of Afghanistan despite the obstacles of the Taliban government."

The head of the office of the United Nations Deputy Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) stated: "The United Nations has offices in different parts of Afghanistan, and hears the voices of the people and communicates with the local authorities. Policies in Afghanistan differ from one region to another, and the United Nations, in cooperation with neighboring countries, works to protect the interests of the Afghan people."
