Tehran (IP) - South African ambassador to Iran says Iran and his countries have signed 23 agreements, of which 18 are operational.

Iran PressIran news: Vika Khumalo made the remarks in answering a question from Iran Press on the potential of Iran and South Africa to improve trade ties, saying that the agreements range from education and agriculture to mining. 

Speaking on Monday at a joint presser with Rouhollah Latifi, Spokesman for Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), and head of Iranian and African Business Club, Babak Tutunchi, he said Iran and South Africa are set for the next joint commission, and it will take place either this year or next year headed by the foreign ministers.

"The two sides are preparing to hold the next joint commission and looking into details and seeking a way to make other agreements operational," the South African ambassador to Iran noted. 

Raisi to visit South Africa

He said Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi is scheduled to visit South Africa next year, which will also solve some of the obstacles in improving trade ties. 

"We have started cooperating with Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), which will help to overcome some of the challenges in trade and discuss trade opportunities with Iranian business people."

According to him, despite the problems caused by the US sanctions, the private sector in Iran is willing to invest more in south Africa and increase trade. 

He says the trade between the countries is estimated to be 30-50 million dollars per month, and this includes not only raw materials but also finished products.
