Tehran (IP) - The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran called President's trip to Uzbekistan as an important and lasting development in strengthening the regional convergence policy.

The visit of the President to Uzbekistan at the invitation of his Uzbek counterpart for an official bilateral meeting and participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the signing of a memorandum of commitments for Irimportantanent membership is another essential and lasting development in strengthening neighborhood policy, convergence and regional integration and deepening multilateralism.

He further explained: "The Islamic Republic of Iran acts dynamically, intelligently, and balanced in realizing the strategic goals of its foreign policy and expanding its foreign relations, and despite adhering to the sanctions lifting negotiations, it does not wait for the JCPOA (The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) and the return of the United States to its JCPOA obligations.

On the official invitation of his Uzbek counterpart, Shaukat Mirzayev, the President of Iran, went to Samarkand in Uzbekistan at the head of a high-ranking delegation of political and economic officials to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
