Iran Press/ Europe: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia's internal credit and debt payment system known as "MIR" would soon be integrated with the "SHETAB" system in Iran to facilitate mutual exchanges between the two countries.
Mir is a Russian payment system for electronic fund transfers established by the Central Bank of Russia in 2017.
Having talked with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir- Abdollahian, Sergey Lavrov said in a press conference: "Basic negotiations are underway at the level of central banks regarding the integration and mutual use of the MIR systems of Russia and SHETAB of Iran," Russia Today reported.
The Russian FM added: "The two sides communicated in July and agreed on some sort of road map that would lead us to this conclusion.
He also said: "I am sure this will be done relatively soon."
Iran's Foreign Minister Amir- Abdollahian also expressed his hope that the last technical problems of integrating the two systems will be resolved soon.
The SHETAB (Interbank Information Transfer Network) system is an electronic banking clearance and automated payments system in Iran.
Earlier this month, reports emerged that India plans to start accepting Russian MIR cards. At the same time, in return, Russia is likely to "clear the way" for Indian RuPay cards to be taken into the country.
